There are many different plasma balls for sale. It used to be only place to find plasma balls were in the science section of many of the nation’s museums in the electricity exhibit section. Plasma balls come in a wide variety of sizes and colors. You can also get battery operated plasma balls, or plasma balls that run on standard A/C type power.

Colors are dependant on the type of glass used, and the gas contained in the plasma ball itself.

One cool trick with a plasma ball is to hold a florescent light near one. You’ll find that the pulsating field of electrical energy is strong enough to excite the gas inside the fluorescent tube making it glow. Very cool.

You can also take your finger and safely press against the glass of the plasma ball. Your touch will draw the plasma ball electrical streams onto the other side of the glass and the tentacles of plasma light will follow your movement. It’s perfectly safe to perform this demonstration.
